The Fateful Night

She sits on the lavish bed, a thin red veil covering her face. She is wearing jewels studded with priceless gems. The chamber in which she sits is quite tenderly lit.

She is Umade, the princess of Jaisalmer and she has wed Rao Maldev, the ruler of Marwar, the most powerful kingdom in Rajputana. She sits here and waits as she decides she would loosen her grip on the reins of her heart as he arrives and the night progresses in the blessed presence of their togetherness.

However, as the wait stretches out longer than she had allowed it to, she mindfully permits patience to take her leave for the time being. She then lifts her veil above her forehead, alights the bed and gracefully walks towards the door. As she opens the door and peers out, she beholds her husband in the corridor, playing with the hair of an apparently attractive attendant of hers and attempting to interpret the emotion in her eyes.

Horrified, she withdraws at once, closing the door behind her, her eyes glistening. For a moment, her startled soul writhes in a pain so profound it could shatter mountains but she doesn't let this pain evidence itself on her face. For a tiny fraction of that very moment, she even curses her fate for being so callous, so heartless but the very next moment, she revokes her tears with tremendous might and regains the composure that becomes a queen.

"Daasi," she yells into the grandiloquence of the room in her innate domineering manner, "pack my belongings. I must leave at dawn."

He did her wrong. But instead of leaving she should show him what she is made of.
