Chapter 4
CHAPTER 3
Present
Brrriiinnnggg!!!
Rey jolted awake on his bed and looked around wildly. It took his sleep-ridden mind a couple of seconds to locate the source of the sound. And then he groaned. Blasted clock! I will have to get myself a different one before this one gives me a heart attack! thought Rey. Switching it off, he groggily rubbed the remnant of his sleep from his eyes. He felt as if it was just a minute ago when he had laid himself to sleep. Stretching to inform his sleeping form that it was time to get up and about, Rey began his morning chores.
Stepping out of the shower, Rey decided to pick the first ensemble he could lay his hands on. He had cajoled Swayam with great difficulty into letting him pick him up for college today. And if he didn't hurry, Rey in all likelihood was never going to hear the end of it. Swayam and the gang would make sure of it. With this thought firmly in his mind, Rey opened his closet and fished around his clothes for something suitable to wear. His hand found a button-down shirt and then as he was pulling a jacket, he froze. His entire being went into a lockdown. Nestled in his fist was a yellow half jacket.the same one he had worn on a date long ago.
This cannot be happening he thought. But even before he knew, blurred splashes of a figure clad in royal blue with long tresses billowing in the wind started skirting the periphery of his mind's eye. Unbidden, snitches of a night long ago made their way back to him. Rey thought he had that aspect of his life perfectly wrapped up and stored in his attic, never to be opened again. But seems like fate was adamant on proving him wrong yet again
He sank down to the ground, his back against the closet. His right hand still holding that wretched piece of cloth. Out of the blue, a disembodied voice seemed to surround him. Voice he remembered with crystal clarity. I love you Rey. He clamped his hands over his ears, hoping the voice would fade away, but it appeared as if his body has committed that sound to memory and kept repeating it like a broken gramophone. I love you Rey
"Hari dada!!Meri blue waali T-shirt kahan hai?!" Swayam yelled while turning his closet upside down. Rey would be here any minute and here he was..still undressed. " aapki almari k doosri shelf mein hi baba"Hari dada replied back. Just as he donned the shirt, his phone started ringing. Thinking it was Rey, Swayam was about to plead for a few minutes more when he saw the name flashing. Papa? Itni subah? Sab thik toh hoga na? Picking it up he wished his father.
"Good morning papa. Kaise hain aap? Achanak itni subah aapne call kiya. Is everything ok?"
His father must have replied in affirmative, for his shoulders visibly relaxed. But the next instant he was shocked beyond words.
"Sach?kab..kaise? I mean...aapne kuch bataya nahin. Nahin nahin papa! Mujhe kya problem ho sakti hai? Aap bilkul tension mat lijiye, main sab sambhaal loonga. Ji ok papa. Bye"
Hanging up, Swayam punched the air and whooped in happiness. This was probably the best news he heard in a long long while!
