As we inch closer to the new year, here is a list of films that were released theatrically and didn't work at the box office inspite of expectations.

Following the pandemic and lockdown, 2022 was the year when moviegoers returned to theatres. It opened new avenues for filmmakers as well as actors. One had high hopes for a number of movies that featured well-known actors, but they fell short of our expectations and did not do well at the box office. Here is a list of movies that were theatrically released but underperformed at the box office compared to what was anticipated of them.
Laal Singh Chaddha
It was after a hiatus that Amir Khan was coming back to the screens with the film. It was expected that the film would do well at the box office as majorly Aamir Khan films do, but due to various factors, it couldn't attain the expected figures. As of 22 August 2022, the film grossed ₹69.92 cr (Courtesy: Bollywood Hungama) in India.
Ram Setu
Ram Setu was Akshay Kumar's 4th release of the year. Well, surprisingly, unlike his trajectory, none of his films did well at the box office. Ram Setu starred Jacqueline Fernandez and Nushratt Bharuccha in pivotal roles. Ram Setu's Indian box office gross collection was ₹71.87 cr (Courtesy: Bollywood Hungama).
Shamshera
Shamshera was a period action drama film that was produced by Yash Raj Films under Aditya Chopra's direction. Along with Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Vaani Kapoor, Ronit Roy, and Saurabh Shukla, the movie also stars Sanjay Dutt in a dual role. The film grossed ₹42.48 cr (Courtesy: Bollywood Hungama).
Samrat Prithviraj
Samrat Prithviraj is a historical action drama film that was directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi. The movie is based on the Braj language epic poem Prithviraj Raso, which tells the story of the life of Prithviraj Chauhan, a Rajput monarch from the Chahamana dynasty. The film's title character was played by Akshay Kumar, and Sanyogita was played by Manushi Chhillar, who made her Hindi cinema debut. The film grossed ₹68.05 cr (Courtesy: Bollywood Hungama) in India.
Heropanti 2
Heropanti 2 starred Tiger Shroff and Tara Sutaria in lead roles wherein Nawazuddin Siddiqui played the antagonist. Fans had a lot of expectations from the action drama, but it failed terribly at the box office and grossed ₹24.45 cr.(Courtesy: Bollywood Hungama) in India.
Attack Part 1
The science-fiction film starred John Abraham, Rakul Preet Singh, and Jacqueline Fernandez. Owing to the unique concept of the film, there were expectations, but the film didn't deliver. It earned ₹16.13 cr (Courtesy: Bollywood Hungama) in India.
Thank God
Thank God was a Diwali release starring Ajay Devgn, Sidharth Malhotra, and, Rakul Preet Singh. The film was expected to invite families to theatres, being a holiday release but ended up earning only ₹34.89 cr (Courtesy: Bollywood Hungama) in India.
Liger
Liger (Hindi) which starred Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday in pivotal roles, made 17.90 cr in its opening week and it went downhill in the second week. And it ended with a lifetime collection of ₹20.05 cr (Courtesy: Bollywood Hungama) in India.

I almost forgot that Attack and Heropanti 2 even existed. Brahmastra should have been on the list. Biggest disaster of 2022.
