Shirsha Guha Thakurta's directorial debut, the romantic comedy "Do Aur Do Pyaar," starring Vidya Balan, Pratik Gandhi, Ileana D'Cruz, and Sendhil Ramammurthy, has been causing quite a stir in the world of cinema. With its refreshing storyline and stellar performances, the film has been earning praise from critics and audiences alike. Recently, India Forums had the opportunity to engage in a candid conversation with director Shirsha Guha Thakurta. During the interview, Shirsha shared insights into her vision for the film, the casting choices and the challenges and triumphs of capturing the chemistry between Pratik Gandhi and Vidya Balan on screen.

When questioned, "There's a section of society that still perceives subjects like infidelity and marital affairs as taboo. Did you face any criticism or comments from that section?

To this she said, "Actually, this film is specifically for that section of society. I want to address those who judge others because that's the core message of the film. It's not about infidelity; it's about four people in love. Who are we to measure whose love is greater? Just because someone's love exists outside the bounds of marriage doesn't make it wrong."

He then added, "The film aims to portray that love isn't a straightforward path anymore; it's complex and doesn't always lead to a happily ever after. Society often overlooks the possibility that things may not work out, and there's too much pressure on married individuals to make it last forever. We need to accept that sometimes it's okay if it's not okay. The film underscores the harm caused by societal pressure and advocates for understanding and acceptance in matters of love and relationships."

When asked, "How did you come to cast Prateek Gandhi for this role, especially considering we haven't seen him in such a light-hearted role before?

Guha gushed, "Prateek was actually recommended by the producers. When we had Vidya on board, we were searching for an exceptional actor to match her capabilities. At that time, "Scam" had just released, and everyone was praising Prateek Gandhi's performance. Initially, I was hesitant because his role in "Scam" was quite different from what we needed for our film. However, upon watching his Gujarati work, I saw his versatility and potential for the character. After meeting him and Vidya together, it became evident that Prateek was more than just his portrayal of Harshad Mehta. He effortlessly slipped into the character during our look tests, showcasing his talent and commitment."

When asked, "Did you have any concerns about the chemistry between Vidya and Prateek, considering their different personalities?

Shirsha exclaimed, "They are indeed very different individuals. Vidya is expressive and lively, while Prateek is more reserved and introverted. Initially, their interactions were a bit awkward, especially since we were filming the estranged part of their characters' marriage."

She then added, "However, as they spent more time together and got to know each other, a genuine friendship developed. Their comfort level grew, and their natural chemistry began to shine through on screen, adding authenticity to their characters' relationship dynamics. We also used Pratik that he is such a 'mama's boy' and the 'cute-guy next door'. It was all fun while shooting." The film 'Do Aur Do Pyaar' was released in theatres on 19th March.
