Trailer Review: 'Leila' Succeeds In Making You Uncomfortable Giving A Handmaid Talesque Vibe!

Huma Qureshi, Siddharth, Rahul Khanna and others come together for this Netflix original...

The poster of Leila on Netflix was released a few days ago and it was enough to get the viewers anticipated about the show right away. But nothing better than a trailer giving away what exactly it is going to be about, right?

The trailer of the Huma Qureshi led Leila recently released and here's what we think of it-

A Handmaid Talesque Vibe:

Straight off the bat, the trailer of the series does give one of the Hulu mega show, A Handmaid Tale's vibe. The storyline is radically different but it is only the treatment that seems very similar to A Handmaid's Tale. Not that we are complaining but just being observant.

Cinematography & Production Design:

The dark cinematography with blue frames in almost every scene is intentional as the makers want you to know one thing that this is not going to be a comforting watch at all. With a show like this, it is important that the viewers feel a sense of claustrophobia upon watching it and with the trailer, it's a mission accomplished.

The Starcast:

Huma Qureshi is a fine actress and this seems to be to her best move to exhibit her relatively untapped acting talent so far. It is refreshing to see South star and Rang De Basanti fame, Siddharth in the presentation who I feel is underrated and underused in the Hindi entertainment front. Rahul Khanna, is a pleasant watch as usual.

The Concept:

As refreshing as it can get, the show is about a future where purity is a law and amidst many restrictions that come with it, one woman stands up to resist this nightmare. But it is the driving factor that makes her tackle hurdles and that factor is going through hell to find her daughter, Leila. Intriguing indeed.

With Leila, Netflix once again is willing to have another success story like that of Sacred Games. Of course, this will have a niche audience but if it is indeed good, word-of-mouth travels fast.
