Veteran actor Mr. Raj Babbar, who is the present spokesperson for Congress, said on Wednesday, "Even today it is possible to have a full meal at Rs.12 in Mumbai."

Regarding the same, we got in touch with our Telly town celebs to know their reaction towards this declaration…

Shashank Vyas aka Jagiya of 'Balika Vadhu' on Colors:

"In Rs.12, I can't even buy a bottle of mineral water, buying a full meal is way not possible. However, it's not about the quantity, what quality are you expecting in this amount, is a big question!" Adding to his views further, the actor says, "I cannot comment on anybody's ideology but according to me at least Rs.50 is necessary for a satisfactorily meal for a common man. Due to the soaring prices, everything is expensive and I don't think so one can get a hygienic meal in Rs.12."

On being questioned about the existing price rates of some essential food items, Shashank says, "I'm sure 1 kg of onion costs Rs.25, 1 liter of milk Rs.52 and 1 kg of sugar Rs.38."

Aashka Goradia aka Rani Bhatiyani of 'Bharat Ka Veer Putra – Maharana Pratap' on Sony TV:

"All I want to say is every time our government comes up with something; it only puts me to shame. What else to say on such a shameful throw back decision?" Reacting on the Rs. 12 meal idea, the actress says, "What is available to buy in Rs.12 for a full meal? Let the government answer this because I won't get anything in this amount." Distressed with this state of affairs, the actress further added, "I don't understand the thought behind this entire scheme. Only a man whose hunger is at its peak can respond to this sad state. Who am I to give a price tag and who is the government to do this without promising any employment to millions in our country?"

Being a responsible Indian citizen, when asked Aashka if she has an idea about the current prices of general groceries, the smart lady says, "Yes, Just like our government, they keep on fluctuating." Talking about our Indian administration, the bold actress says frankly, "To me, our ministers are neither great nor my leaders, as I haven't chosen them. In order to make this nation a better place to live, the government should take a step ahead to curb the ever-increasing population growth and educate people. However, by this, I do not mean government in files but in action too. "

Vipul Gupta aka Anand Shergil of 'Ek Nanad Ki Khushiyon Ki Chaabi...Meri Bhabhi' on Star Plus:

"Well I think it's not a fair and right assessment. It's very tough to stay alive on Rs.12 a meal. All you will get in Rs.12 is possibly a Wada Pav, Samosa or just an Idli, which cannot be counted as a meal." If he had a choice to spend Rs.12 to get a full-meal, the smart actor says, "I would prefer a bottle of Bisleri, as you cannot get anything healthy and hygienic under the given price."

Vipul also says, "Nevertheless, an average amount for a common man to satisfy his hunger would be probably a minimum of Rs25-30, for someone like an autowala who usually eats a plate of Daal-chawal or Aalu puri." Furthermore he says, "In order to bring about a constructive revolution in the country, proper channelization and rightful distribution of basic foodstuff is a must. In a country like India which is blessed with food in abundance, malnutrition and poverty is a shame. We need to overcome this misery and work accordingly to accelerate progress of our nation."

Vahbbiz Dorabjee Dsena aka Alakh of 'Saraswatichandra' on Star Plus:

"I absolutely disagree with this statement. In fact, I think Mumbai is the most expensive city to live in India. An upper middle class or a rich individual would probably spend Rs.1000 in a day. However, even when I pay my servants, I think they would require at least Rs.80-Rs.100 to have a full course meal."

When asked if given Rs. 12, what the actress will prefer, she says, "I think in today's scenario, it's difficult to even find a Sev Puri in Rs.12, forget about a meal." A surprised Vahbiz further adds, "Whenever my flight lands in Mumbai and I move out of the airport, all I get to see is a planet full of slums. Considering the facts, I think the government and the ministers should first live a life of a common man and then think about speaking out such illogical statements."

Mazher Sayed aka Ranjeet of 'Mrs. Pammi Pyarelal' on Colors:

"Rs.12 for a meal, is it a meal or just a Wada Pav or just one idli? Let the government decide because Rs. 12 for a full-meal sounds a little far fetched.  According to me, a decent meal easily costs around Rs.60-80, for at least the last time I checked."

When we tried to know if Mazher is well-versed with the current market price of some of the basic food items, he roughly estimates, "In the present scenario, 1 kg of sugar might cost Rs.35-40, 1 liter of milk for Rs. 54 and cow milk Rs.42. I guess 1 kg of sugar would cost nearly Rs.40."

Chitrashi Rawat, last seen as Jawalamukhi in F.I.R. on SAB TV:

"Well actually this whole Rs.12 meal deal is pretty hilarious. I mean you don't even get a plate of Pani Puri for Rs.12 these days. These people are talking about some ancient time."

On being questioned, what would the actress buy, if given Rs. 12, she says, "That's why it's funny. I don't know even if you get a Wada Pav in Rs.12. I would prefer bread, but sadly you won't even get a packet of bread in Rs.12. Even though the price of materials depends on the place you are living in, Rs.12 is definitely impossible in a city like Mumbai."

Rajev Paul, last seen as a contestant in 'Bigg Boss Season 6':

"With due respect to Babbar Sir, I just wanna know where can one get a full meal in just Rs.12? I would probably buy a chewing gum, that's all I can think Rs. 12 will get. I guess even a Sev Puri and Pani Puri costs a bare minimum of Rs.25 and Wada Pav for Rs.10-12. So an average full course meal would be in the range of Rs.60-70."

Rajev who buys his own groceries says, "I'm well versed with the market rates, as 1 kg of Onion costs Rs.35, I liter of milk will come for Rs.32 and a Tetra pack for Rs.40-50 and 1 kg of premium sugar would cost Rs.50 and regular Rs.40."

"Politicians should focus on the progress of the country. They are so busy in their own progress that they forget country ki bhi progress karni hai" he ends.
