Filmmaker Rumi Jaffery was summoned by the Mumbai Police in connection to Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide case. Sushant was found hanging at his Bandra residence on June 14 2020. The Police is investigating the matter and over 30 people including Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Shekhar Kapur, Sanjana Sanghi, Rhea Chakraborty, Shanoo Sharma among others have recorded their statements so far.
Rumi arrived at the Bandra Police on Thursday at 3 pm and was interrogated for four long hours. According to sources in Mumbai Police, Rumi Jaffery in his statement talked about Sushant’s depression, the rom-com movie they were supposed to do and about the late actor’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty.
The filmmaker confessed that he knew about Sushant’s depression as Rhea had informed him. The Times of India quoted Rumi as saying: "I went to talk to him, but Sushant did not open up and speak about it. And that’s why, while talking to him, whenever I felt he was feeling low, I’d invite him to my place or I’d go over to his. He was an intelligent man. Main unki kaafi taareef karta tha, unke kaam ko leke. I’d never ask him what was making him depressed, fearing that he might sink in deeper thinking and talking about it.”
Rumi also revealed his last conversation with Sushant as he said:
"On June 12, my last conversation with Sushant Singh was via WhatsApp, where I wanted to know his condition but with his repression, I got to know that he is in depression or disturbed over something.. later I didn’t talk to him much not even I took the matter forward."
Talking about the film that he was in talks with Sushant and Rhea, Rumi shared:
“I had all details and dates in place about the first time that I met Sushant, when and where we had the narration of the script and more such information. They asked me everything — how the project was planned, who was producing it, how many times we met and discussed the project and whether the meetings happened at my home or at Sushant’s place.”
“He was very happy and excited. But the pre-production of the film was in the process. It was a romantic film, which was scheduled to start with the shooting in the month of May in London, but because of lockdown, we have to postpone” Republic TV quoted.
Rumi Jaffery also talked about Rhea and Sushant’s relationship as he stated:
"Both were like made for each other. She used to take care of Sushant and she was standing firm with him during his depression."
Meanwhile, Prime Minister has acknowledged Subramanian Swamy’s letter for a CBI investigation to find out the truth behind Sushant’s tragic demise. A Delhi-based advocate Ishkaran Singh Bhandari shared the news on his Twitter handle.
