Rishi Kapoor on his father’s extra-marital affairs: Have seen my mother suffer!

From its inception, Bollywood has had its fair share of legendary movies as well as family and relationship drama. Everyday a new story of a celebrity having an affair, facing scandals and controversies is brought into limelight. If there is one family that has seen Bollywood grow it’s the Kapoor family. Prithviraj Kapoor, who started his career as an actor in the silent era of Hindi cinema, was a pioneer of the Hindi film industry and theatre.

His family up until now has given the Indian cinema legendary actors. In a throwback interview with Stardust, Rishi Kapoor had opened up about learning acting from the ‘University of the Kapoors’. He had said, “People often ask me what institute have I been to. And I always tell them that I've graduated from the University of the Kapoors. I've learnt everything in this school. It is here that I learnt to overcome failure, hurt, pain.”

The Kapoor clan has given us so many legendary actors and record-breaking films that till date are watched by the audiences. But fame and money can destroy you. At a time when the industry used to keep mum on scandals and controversies, Rishi Kapoor opened up about his father Raj Kapoor’s extra-marital affairs and how he has seen his mother Krishna Raj Kapoor suffer through its all. 

The 67-year-old actor, who is known for being opinionated and raising his voice against something he is against, he also opened up about why he would never cheat on his wife. 

In a throwback interview with Stardust, as quoted by International Business Times, he said, “My experiences have taught me a lot. Why only this, I have even lived with the trauma of seeing my father have affairs outside. It traumatised me a great deal. Throughout that period, I have seen my mother suffer. I've even seen that part of life. And if today, I've emerged a stronger person emotionally, it's only because of the patience that my family imbibed in me.”

"I'm a matured person because I have grown up evaluating the things that took place when I was a child. Maybe that is why I keep away from relationships outside marriage. I don't want my children to go through what I went through," he further added.

"I'm sincere to my work and to my family because I've experienced a lot from the lifestyles of my grandfather, my father, my uncles, my brothers. I've deliberately stayed away from things that could possibly affect my family life. The only thing that I haven't been able to stay away from is alcohol. I don't know how that has happened. Maybe because my father too was a big drinker, I guess," he said. 

For the unversed, Raj Kapoor and Krishna Malhotra, now known as Krishna Raj Kapoor, tied the knot in an arranged marriage in 1946. The legendary actor often made the headlines due to his romantic relationships with other actress, while he was still married. He had a longtime romantic relationship with actress Nargis, who later married Sunil Dutt. Apart from her, he was also linked to 1960s actress Vyjayantimala and southern actress Padmini.
