Review: 'Nach Baliye 9' Doesn't Have Anything New To Offer Apart From Its Unique Concept

The couple dancing reality show is back after two years...

There was way too much, and I mean way too much hullabaloo surrounding the return of Nach Baliyre 9, and rightly so, where it has been one of the oldest reality shows on Indian TV that has managed to spark interest every time it comes on-air. The show is also known for its controversial moments in the past but no controversy is ever enough when it comes to Indian TV, isn't it?

The theme this time is certainly no surprise to anyone where the currently dating/married couples just like very season are a part of the show but they are joined by a bunch of ex-couples thus adding a whole new meaning to the show. The show premiered a while ago and will in fact continue tomorrow with the revelation of the rest of the couples. Here are some of the highs and lows from the episode-

THE HIGHS

The Concept

Say what you may but apart from the fact that this is a new and unique concept, it is even progressive in several ways. The token Indian TV audience isn't too used to watching 'exes' on-screen in any capacity, let alone on a commercial potboiler reality show. However, even though the reasons for introducing this concept may be different for the makers it does certify as a new approach that is intriguing.

1

Not Shying Away

On similar lines to the boldness of the concept, the show isn't shying away from showcasing some things which again, can be the 'taboo' otherwise. The best example of that was the AV of Urvashi Dholakia, The fearless woman she is, she did not shy away from revealing her failed marriage even before legal age amongst many other things. All this would be a controversy anyway in real life amongst people but the fact that it is on national television deserves kudos.

2

Some Couples

Of course, not all couples are going to be the ultimate deal, right? And anyway, over half of them are yet to be revealed. But even so, the pleasant surprise included that of Shraddha Arya and her boyfriend, Alam Singh who wasn't known at all till now; also Babita Phogat and her fiancee, Vivek Suhag where both of them seemed really genuine and innocent.

3

THE LOWS

Salman Khan

I can already sense over hundreds blasting me or absolutely hating me for this but yes, Salman Khan was in fact a low point for the show. Of course, he is THE Salman Khan so he will bring in the viewership, interest and of course blind fans in, But this is not Bigg Boss where his usual charm fits the concept of the show well and for the past couple of seasons how it has become looking forward to his fights with the contestants. Salman somehow just doesn't impress even though he tries too. There are several instances he even looks uninterested and as we call it, Blah!

4

The Editing

Don't get me wrong. I am aware that editing isn't really a factor on reality shows to be looked forward to. But the bad editing here will remind you of the epic goof-ups that are done on award shows telecast. Even though a joke is not funny even remotely, the editor decided to show laughing couple of audience member who probably must have reacted that way to something else. You sit back and ponder on that utter stupidity otherwise.

5

The Moments

There are several moments in the show that are only put to have you react in a certain manner but that only plays out the other way. For example, the unnecessary background score of suspense and an expression of worry is paired with the revelations of the couple that seems utterly preposterous. After a point of time, you just want them t get on with it.

The Verdict

There can be a lot of things that the show will or will not be known for but what we can't deny is that it is Nach Baliye after all. One of the most loved shows and even though the charm may have been lost on several occasions it is still worth to be seen.

I agree...there are some really unnecessary moments and bad editing...also I didn't like the 2 judges concept... A director and an actress are fine but I wanted an ace choreographer as well. But Nach baliye has been one of my favourite shows.. So definitely going to watch it.

Okay but then what about Dance India Dance? This season of DID is crap at its finest! Dance Deewane's overrated. Nach Baliye is the best.

Thanks for sharing it. I only liked season 1 with real couple. Most of them are fake couples now
