Naseeruddin Shah, a prominent actor of Indian cinema turns 70 today. The actor who is known to be the true superstar of parallel cinema has been impressing the audience since his debut in the 1975 film Nishant. His contribution to Indian cinema is quite notable as Naseeruddin has portrayed many strong characters in Regional and Bollywood films. 

Working for more than 50 years in the industry, the actor has played a variety of characters including negative roles whether it is a filthy gangster in Bombay Boys or a heartless subedar in Mirch Masala. "I like playing negative characters and I do not think I have played enough of them, I am looking for more," the actor had said in a recent interview.

Nishant(1975), Manthan(1976), Sparsh(1980), Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyoon Aata Hai(1980), Masoom(1983), Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro(1983) and many more are among the most loved films of Naseeruddin Shah. The 70s to 80s was the era when the actor evolved himself in the industry and became a prominent name in the parallel cinema.

Post 80's, every filmmaker was keen to work with Naseer and then he became active in the mainstream cinema too. In 1999, Shah was critically acclaimed for his role in the film Sarfarosh. The actor also impressed everyone in the 2008 film A Wednesday.

Shah has also been praised for his international projects including Monsoon Wedding (2001) and later he made his Pakistani film debut with Khuda Ke Liye. 

The actor was also honored by the government of India with Padma Bhushan and Padmashri. 

Naseeruddin Shah is truly a gem of Indian Cinema and the actor will never fail to impress us with his outstanding performances in the future too. Happy birthday to 'Not the typical hero of Bollywood'.
