Recently, there have been several rumours regarding the release of the upcoming Malayalam film Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham. Reports suggested that the Priyadarshan directorial will opt for a direct to digital route for the release of the film.
Marakkar starring superstar Mohanlal was scheduled to release in March last year, but was indefinitely postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. In a recent interview, filmmaker Priyadarshan has now confirmed that the film will have a theatrical release even if he has to wait for six more months. He told Sify.com:
“Marakkar is a big-budget film that can be enjoyed only on the big screen, even if I have to wait for another six months it will only have a theatrical release. Mohanlal, Antony Perumbavoor (producer and distributor), and me, we are on the same page as far as the release is concerned and we are sure a big tentpole film like Marakkar will have a big screen release before going the digital way.”
The director stated that the film has been made with a lavish budget of Rs 100 crores and asked if any OTT platform would be interested in paying ?150 crore for the film, even if they consider a digital release.
Produced by Anthony Perumbavoor, Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham also stars Arjun, Suniel Shetty, Keerthy Suresh, Manju Warrier and Siddique in important roles. It will be released in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.
