A month ago, former writer-director Vinta Nanda filed a complaint accusing well known actor Alok Nath of sexual harassment. Vinta alleged that she was drugged and raped by the actor 19 years ago when they were working together for a TV show. Vinta first made allegations against the actor on Facebook on 8th October, and an FIR was registered this wednesday under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for rape against him.
After Vinta's shocking post with harrowing details which went viral on social media faster than a forest fire, Nath's wife filed a defamation case against her, and a week after that Nath filed civil defamation case against her seeking Rs 1 as damage. However, this was dismissed by the Bombay Civil and sessions court stating that neither of them can file a defamation suit just based out of a Facebook post.
After Vinta's #MeToo claims, two other women came out in support of her and accused the actor of sexual misconduct. Following which, Alok was expelled from Cine and TV Artistes' Association (CINTAA) earlier this month.
Well, we only hope that the accused gets served right for his derogatory actions.
