In a recent interview with India Today, Sharma dismissed the notion of similarities between the two projects, emphasizing the uniqueness of 'Maidaan's' narrative. He expressed that while both films revolve around the theme of sports and coaching, the stories and struggles portrayed are entirely different. According to Sharma, the essence of 'Maidaan' lies not merely in football but in the emotional journey of its protagonist, Syed Abdul Rahim.
Highlighting the distinction, Sharma stated, "There are no similarities between these films, except maybe 22 players are running after one ball on the field. The story is different, the struggle is different."
