I took inspiration from Shefali Shah from ‘Waqt’: Shireen Mirza on playing a mother to almost same aged actor

Colors’ show ‘Dharam Patnii’ is getting the love from the audiences. The current track revolves around Ravi being devastated with Keerti’s demise and is determined to take action against the person who’s responsible for the same.

In a short span of time, the show has captivated the hearts and minds of the audiences. The entire cast perfectly fits the bill and fans love all of them dearly. Popular actress Shireen Mirza plays the character of Ravi (Fahmaan’s mother) in the show while Mirza is almost the same age as Khan. 

India Forums got in touch with Mirza and asked her if she feels awkward playing a mother to Fahmaan Khan whose almost same age as hers, she said, “No, I’m an actor!! I take inspirations from actors like Shefali Shah who played Akshay Kumar’s mother in ‘Waqt’ while she’s younger than him. I have never had a problem playing a mother or a supporting role as long as it’s a full-fledged character in the series. My issue is why define a character merely on the basis of his or her relationship with the leads?”

When asked if she was skeptical before taking the show up, she said, “Not really, as I said above. I just didn’t want to make changes with my looks and appearance and the makers did agree and did full justice”.

Whenever an actor takes up a more mature role, there’s always a chance of being type-cast. When asked if she feels she’ll be typecast, Shireen added, “May be or maybe not. There are different people with different mentality in the industry. But it doesn’t bother me because I know once I’ll prove my skills it wouldn’t matter to others as well.”

Talking about the feedback from fans on the same, she said, “Some of them are still not accepting the fact that why have I taken this character. But at this point I just want to say that show has just started please give it sometime before concluding anything. Trust me. There is a lot to the character that the fans will be going to watch in future.”
