Devara: Jr NTR, Janhvi Kapoor's movie to outclass Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis at the US box office?

Jr NTR, Saif Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor’s Devara Part One is coming tomorrow in theatres. It is the biggest film in the career of Koratala Siva. His last movie Acharya with Chiranjeevi bombed so there are huge expectations from this one. We know that Telugu speaking people are in large numbers in North America. The frenzy for films like Kalki 2898 AD, Salaar, RRR and Baahubali has proven the same. Well, Devara is going to open at USD 3.5 million, which is huge. It could be the biggest film at the US box office on Thursday beating Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis. 

This is huge as Francis Ford Coppola’s last movie as a filmmaker was Twixt in 2012. He has spent USD 125 million on Megalopolis, which has Adam Driver in the lead. It is a sci-fi drama around a fictional new world. Critics have said it is a little messy but beautiful and engrossing nevertheless. Francis Ford Coppola is the maker of the Godfather series, Apocalypse Now and The Rainmaker to name a few iconic movies. US box office analyst Luiz Fernando said Devara is enroute to creating new records for Indian movies in Hollywood.

Devara is a movie about gang wars in the coastline of South India. It is going to come in two parts. Those who have seen glimpses say it is a visual feast. The opening day advances of Devara should be around Rs 75 crores gross worldwide as per box office tracker Sacnilk Entertainment. Saif Ali Khan is making his debut as a villain in the South with this movie. It seems he put in a lot of effort to learn the language. This is also Janhvi Kapoor’s debut in Tollywood. Devara’s trailer has got a good response but the songs have failed to become chartbusters so far.
