#BB12: What Went WRONG This Season?

Was it lamest season so far?

Bigg Boss is one of the longest running reality shows of small screen. Almost 12 seasons have gone on air and all of them have become the talk of the town the moment the season has gone on air. Inspired by the Hollywood series Big Brother, the show started in the year 2006 and has been running successfully till now. Seeing the craze for the show, it went on to get made on regional languages like Kannada, Bengali, Tamil, Telegu, Marathi and Malayalam.
Last season, Bigg Boss 11 bagged the highest TRP's of all the season and thus expectations for this season was sky high. However, in contrary, Bigg Boss 12 failed to bag the attention throughout. The show opened on number six on BARC list but slowly it slipped further down.

Even it went missing from the top 20 list few times throughout its three months long run. This makes it very clear that you need more than just hype to keep people hooked to it. Moreover, when the makers announced the season, they declared it will be a jodi season and the jodis will be a unique pair.

However, later the makers failed to stay true to their promise. The competition was excessively tougher as the makers chose a prime-time slot this time. With existing shows already having a loyal fan base in the slot, the show was supposed to face such difficulties but it became more difficult with time. After a shining opening due to the premiere episode graced by Salman Khan, the show failed to give drama inside the house and the star contestants also under-performed unlike our expectations.

Social media also kind of rejected this season as the Twitterati remained silent post many episodes. We don't know the makers guessed it beforehand or not but compared to all the seasons, this one had the ex-contestants gracing the show most number of times. Don't you think so?

Since the premiere episode, the makers had ex-contestants like Shilpa Shinde and Manveer Gurjar. Not only that the second episode had Hina Khan, Hiten Tejwani as moderators. It was followed by Shilpa Shinde's re-entry in the house with Karan Patel. Though Karan is not an ex-contestant but he went inside the house twice for different tasks.

In fact, Vikas Gupta went inside the house after few days of the premiere and the statue task took off so early. Hina went inside the house for almost thrice. Vikas also graced the show and stayed inside the house for a task with Shilpa Shinde. He even went just before the show went off air and while every season has a reporter episode, this season they made Vikas and Jay Bhanushali the moderators who judged the finalists and defended them also.

The makers also brought Pritam Singh. Kamya Punjabi also went inside the house repeatedly. Kamya, Priyank Sharma and Gautam Gulati even fought against the contestants in a task and stayed inside the house. Even actors and actresses like Surbhi Jyoti, Pearl V Puri who have never been part of the show went inside the house. Ex-contestant Sana Khan also became a part of this season.

To grab more attention and something new, the makers cancelled the reporter task unlike every season and for a change, they sent Vikas Gupta and Jay Bhanushali inside the house and a similar task but with a different twist was staged. While most of the time ex-contestants and celebrity guests were restricted to Weekend Ka Vaar, this season, their presence continued more than that.

It proves that the makers really tried hard to bag the attention of the viewers by bringing celebs of earlier seasons and other prominent faces of the show but alas, nothing helped. In earlier seasons we never saw ex-celebs coming inside the house to participate in the task and make it more appealing but this happened this time. Sadly, the makers tried their best but couldn't live up to the expectations.

Well, frankly speaking, don't you think that the charm of the show went missing this time. Earlier, there were fights for luxury budgets and how everyone used to fight for it because otherwise, they won't get food. The fight between people with different food choices was amusing to watch.

In fact, the entertainment quotient also went down this time as there was no glamour factor this season. While Jasleen, Srishty Rode tried hard, it was all about fighting and mud slinging on each other. In fact, the tasks of the shows went on repetitive and our expectations started dropping.

Sorry to say, the makers tried hard to save Bigg Boss 12 by bringing back ex-contestants and popular faces on the show every week, but it failed badly to pull up the socks.

I think negativity and abuse was more this season and entertainment quotient was missing. so by making Dipika the winner, they kept the show real and worth watching for next season.
